Pinot noir is the delicacy itself, thin skin, sensitive to the Terroir, very hard to grow, this grape need the total consideration of its vine-grower. It made light to medium bodied wines, very low in alcohol (from 11% to 12.5%) and express fresh cherry and floral flavors. Its lightness allow you to pair it with almost everything fish, white meat, poultry, fresh salad. King of the wines the most renowned wine in the world, La Romanée Conti is made from 100% of Pinot Noir, and with its white flesh it produces the best Champagne (in my opinion!).
Best places for wines made from Pinot Noir
Burgundy, Champagne, Loire
Best version are from Burgundy (Irancy to Gevrey -Chambertin) and Champagne Blanc de noir for a pure expression. If you fancy easy drinking wines, Loire valley is the best area for you to go with AOC Chinon, Saumur Champigny and Sancerre rouge.
More powerful but still very smooth, they are nectar for your palate.
Central Otago, Marlborough, Martinbourough
Did I tell you those are my favorites? One of the best expression of Pinot noir and with most of the time a very decent price.
Ahr, Baden, Franken, Pfalz
With its colder climate Germany produces very light wine with usually 11% of alcohol, not my cup of tea but again German Spätburgunder has its fans!
